District making progress on leader
January 11, 2020
The district will replace former Superintendent Jack Gyves, who retired nearly a year ago. Roger Gallizzi, an assistant superintendent, has been serving as the interim administrator and was not a candidate. The district had extended the deadline once to allow more people to apply. About 15 people applied by the first deadline, Oct. 20, but board members were told several people who missed the deadline were interested. The application period was extended until March, and 13 more candidates came forward. Of the original 15, nine were no longer in the running because they did not submit complete applications, decided to stay at their current jobs or found employment elsewhere, officials with the district search consulting firm said. PALMDALE – Palmdale School District trustees have tentatively agreed on a candidate for superintendent of schools, but more work needs doing before an offer can be made. “We made a selection,” board President Bo Bynum said. “We think we got an outstanding candidate that’s going to fill the bill of superintendent.” District officials did not release the individual’s name. Two trustees plan to visit the applicant’s workplace to talk to co-workers and do reference checks, but the date for that action has not yet been set. Two weekends ago, the field was down to three candidates.
