There was one acting coach in particular that was instrumental in having me get more serious about acting and she happened to live in Regina. She had come to Saskatoon to do a weekend workshop and I found myself being pushed and challenged in a way I had never been before. She exposed me to acting methods and techniques they weren’t teaching in high school. And I loved that. So from then on I started making the two and a half hour trek out to Regina to attend more of her classes and do one on one coachings with her. What was great was she’d also occasionally bring in casting directors/directors from Vancouver and LA to give workshops. Being able to get in front of those casting directors at that point in time helped take away some of the nerves down the road when I did eventually move to Vancouver and get in the audition room with them.Is your character of London on Lifetime’s hit dramedy “UnREAL” similar to you?There are definitely aspects of her character that are similar. She’s very sure of what she stands for and isn’t someone you can easily convince to stray from her beliefs. She’ll speak up for herself if she’s not okay with a certain situation. That’s the way I am too. Advertisement Lifetime’s hit breakout comedy UnReal is pleasing critics and audiences alike. The show mimics reality television and explores the producing side of it in all its chaos and glory. Because it’s filmed in the Lower Mainland, many local actors are finding guest and recurring roles on the show. Gabby Douglas (@gabbycvdouglas/Instagram)After facing a barrage of online criticism and harassment during the 2016 Olympic Games, gymnast Gabby Douglas is finally speaking out.The three-time gold medalist, who was heavily criticized about her hair at the 2012 Beijing Olympics, faced similar condemnation this year along with accusations of a lack of patriotism and poor sportsmanship. For Douglas, the recrimination was hurtful.“I had [to] take off social media before the Olympics,” Douglas told Teen Vouge on Facebook Live Wednesday, Dec. 21. “Then, after team finals in Rio, I Googled myself and there was just so much noise. First, it started with me not having my hand over my heart, then my hair, then me not being supportive. I was like, ‘Oh my God, I have no idea where this is coming from.’ It was hard.”Online commenters reignited the 2012 fury over Douglas’ hair during the Games in Rio De Janerio, Brazil, in August. One person proclaimed the 20-year-old’s tresses “makes me so mad.”Then, Douglas stood at attention during the national anthem but didn’t place her hand over her heart like the rest of her Final Five teammates. In reaction, a Twitter user deemed Douglas a “sorry American.” Finally, when teammate Simone Biles won gold in the women’s individual all-around, Twitter took aim at Douglas for allegedly feeling salty over the triumph.“Every single day, I’d come back to the village after every single training practice and I literally bawled my eyes out,” Douglas said. “I would cry and cry and cry because people were being so mean.”The judgment visibly took a toll on the gymnast towards the end of the Olympics, when USA Today reported Douglas seemed to be holding back tears as she scrolled through her phone.Douglas also addressed criticism about her serious demeanor during the 2016 Games, noting she had simply grown up since she last competed in the Olympics at age 16.“Going from 2012, I was this smiley, bubbly Gabby,” she explained. “And in 2014 to 2016, I was like, ‘I’ll be a little more mature, a little more sass.’ And everyone was like, ‘What’s wrong with her? She’s not smiling, something’s wrong.’ And I’m like, ‘No, this is mature Gabby.’ I love to laugh, there’s nothing wrong with that. Just don’t put me in a category, you know? Let me do what I need to do out on the floor.”Douglas has advice for other people who have dealt with cyberbullying: Don’t change.“There’s [sic] people out there that love you guys and your life is very important and very valuable,” she said. “Always be strong and you can overcome it, you really can.”
At least 14 people were killed and 31 injured on an average 13 road crashes a day across the country in January this year, reports UNB.At least 425 people, including 54 women and 30 children, died and 950 others injured in 403 road crashes in the last month between 1 January and 31 January.A regular monthly survey and observation report of National Committee to Protect Shipping, Roads and Railways (NCPSRR), a non-government organisation, revealed it on Friday.The report was prepared on the basis of 22 English and Bangla national dailies, 10 regional newspapers and eight online news portals and news agencies.Some 28 people, including four children, were killed and 11 others injured in 32 train accidents and six people were killed and five others injured in waterway accidents during the same period.The fatal accidents took place on the several roads, highways, national roads, inter-district and regional roads across the country in January.The NCPSRR said that lack of proper supervision of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority, Department of Shipping, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority and Bangladesh Railway are mainly liable for these situations in three transport sectors.The authorities concerned should take some steps urgently to lessen the accidents and casualties. Those are: taking strict steps against movement of faulty vehicles and vessels, creating public awareness, including vehicles and vessels workers, imposing existing laws strictly on all roads and waterways and lastly increasing supervisions on all railway crossings.
